Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan and The Last Starfighter – Presented by Exhumed Films

Widely regarded as the best of the original Star Trek film series, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is an enjoyable, action-packed classic from the golden age of early 1980s sci-fi cinema. Conceived as a sequel more to a popular episode of the original television series than to the previous film, Wrath of Khan features the titular villain (Ricardo Montalban in a glorious, scenery-chewing performance) seeking vengeance upon Admiral Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise for exiling him to a desolate planet years earlier. Featuring moments of great action, high camp, and legitimate emotional impact, Star Trek II never fails to entertain.

As an added bonus, before the feature begins we will be screening a 16mm film print of the original 1967 Star Trek TV episode “Space Seed”, which introduced Montalban as the villainous Khan!

The Last Starfighter
1984 / 35mm / Dir. Nick Castle / 101 min.

The Last Starfighter holds a significant place in cinema history as being the first film where nearly all special effects were computer generated rather than created with practical effects. And while the digital images are not nearly as impressive now as they may have seemed thirty years ago, the movie has lost none of its charm. The Last Starfighter concerns teenaged trailer park resident Alex Rogan (Lance Guest), who dreams of escaping his small-town drudgery. He gets his wish…sort of…when his expert video game skills attract the attention of an alien recruiter looking for space warriors. Soon Alex finds himself enlisted to help save the galaxy from an evil empire bent on mass destruction. Also featuring Robert Preston and genre favorite Dan O’Herlihy (Halloween III, Robocop).
