Zimbabwe Shona Stone Sculpture Exhibition

Zimbabwe Shona Stone Sculpture Exhibition

Zimbabwe’s stone sculptures have fast become collector’s items and can be found in world class galleries such as the Rodin Museum in Paris, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Museum of Mankind in London. The value of this art did not escape the discerning eyes of some of the world’s prominent art collectors such as the Rockefellers, Prince Charles and the Rothschild’s who each have a few pieces of the Zimbabwe stone sculptures in their private collections. Celebrity African Americans have acquired them for their personal collections as well. Atlanta International airport decorated an entire concourse with just such artworks from Zimbabwe!

This show is a must see for serious art collectors. It will feature sculpture by internationally renowned artists such as the late Henry Munyaradzi whose medium was serpentine and spring stone; James Tandi and Tendai Dodzo whose medium is the rare semi precious verdite, and Njobo who specializes in butter-jade stone. A variety of both abstract and realist sculpture will be available in a wide variety of stone types at all price levels.

The 10 day exhibition kicks off with an opening day reception on Friday November 22nd at 5pm with light refreshments and live mbira music by the Zimbabwean mbira maestro Solomon Murungu. (Mbira music is Zimbabwe’s traditional music). The hours for the show are November 22nd, 5pm-9pm. Monday thru Saturday, 11am- 7pm, Sundays 1pm- 6pm. Closed Thanksgiving day November 28th. Last day of the show is Sunday December 1st.
