Authorities say a large tree fell on several children in a Chelsea playground, hospitalizing at least two.
Two of the children — ages two and eight — were taken to area hospital for their injuries. Chelsea Police described their injuries as serious, with one of the children being treated for a possible fractured skull. A video of the tree falling can be viewed here. Witnesses reported hearing a cracking sound before the tree fell in Washington Park just before 7 p.m. Monday.
Chelsea authorities closed the park as a precaution and have ordered the park closed until other trees in the park are deemed to be safe.
”I am wishing both of the injured children a speedy recovery and am grateful that others in the park escaped injury,” said Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes in a statement. “I also thank the other adults in the park who acted quickly to remove the children from the debris and by assisting first responders.
