Former Mass. cop charged with child rape

A former Amesbury police sergeant is accused of multiple disturbing sexual assaults against a young child.

David J. Connor, 62, was arrested Thursday morning on three counts of possession of child pornography, two counts of indecent assault and batter on a child under 14, aggravated rape and abuse of a child, and indecent exposure, investigators revealed Thursday.

Police Chief Kevin J. Ouellet said Connor has been under investigation since August 2014, after police received a report from the victim who was brought in by their parents.

The victim reported repeated occurrences of sexual abuse over a period of time.

The child victim known to Connor, Ouelett said. Connor previously worked for the Amesbury Police department from 1977 to 1991 and is being held at the Amesbury Police Department pending arraignment in a Newbury District Court on Thursday, police said.
