Go local with holiday shopping at Magpie, Brookline Booksmith and G2O salon

If you’ve exhausted all the big stores in the area, but still haven’t found quite the right gift for everyone on your list, it might be time to go a bit more local. We got in touch with a few local spots to ask them what they’re recommending for shoppers this year. Magpie , in Davis Square, stocks gifts from independent designers, while the folks at BrooklineBooksmith have a few ideas beyond their extensive book selection. And for the more glamorous folks in your life, we checked in with G2O Salon & Spa in Back Bay to see what beauty products make for the best gifts.

Magpie

David Sakowski, owner of Magpie (and Magpie kids), recommends this owl heating pad. “Why settle for a boring heating pad when you can soothe any aches, pains, cramps or general ouchies with a super cute Owl Heating Pad by Jasmine Doodles?”

It’s the season for a mug of something warm and cozy to drink, so you’d better get something cozy to drink out of. “I love the whimsical feel of Abby Berkson’s mugs. Her Narwhals in love and Sloth mugs are my favorite. I mean, how can you not have a good day if you start out drinking coffee out of one of these mugs?” says Sakowski (see above).

Brookline Booksmith

For the always cold, the store’s Derosier has just the thing: “One word, SOCKS! Knee highs, ankle socks, soft socks, we’ve got it all. With a huge selection of patterns and colors, we’ve got socks for your entire family and friends.”

And for a multipurpose gift, Derosier says “ These 100% cotton flour sack dishtowels feature great phrases in a charming typewriter font. You can even use them to wrap up a hostess gift with kitchen twine or ribbon for a unique gift giving experience.”

G2O Spa & Salon

For the big MoroccanOil fan in your life, try one of their gift boxes. G2O retail director Lisa Hills says, “Every holiday season, they come out with new gift boxes and they sell out because, not only do you get 2 free items, but they are packaged so beautifully, there is no need to wrap.

Hills also loves Oribe’s Cote d’Azure perfume. “ If you know someone who uses Oribe haircare, this is a MUST HAVE item for the holidays.”

Pop up shop

If you’re really on the go, there are holiday pop up boutiques all over the city. For instance, head over to the Fenway neighborhood and try Eat Boutique at 1377 Boylston St., which is selling boxes of Island Creek Oysters. You have to preorder in advance, but they come in both 36 and 100 count bags.

For the outdoorsy type in your life, head over to Town Pool, at Faneuil Hall, which has Gumleaf Boots and Faherty flannels on offer.
