Converse’s Boston HQ is giving three aspiring acts the chance of a lifetime in conjunction with the Newport Folk Fest on July 22-24. Winners get two-day sessions in Boston Rubber Tracks recording studio on Beverly Street, under the skillful production guidance of the Replacements guitarist Dave Minehan. The bands or artists also land a spot on the Newport Folk Fest’s Museum Stage — alongside the likes of (NBD) Norah Jones, Patti Smith, Flight of the Conchords, Ryan Adams and Alabama Shakes.
Last year’s winners included Southern synth-psych group Ancient Cities, Maine-based roots band The Ghost of Paul Revere, and Boston-bred folk trio Honeysuckle. Hopefuls have until July 11 to apply via Converse Music, so doctor up your band’s mission statement and clean up your social media accounts now.
