Boston holiday parties could get cheeky with Butlers in the Buff

Jason Didcott began baring his military-trained body at age 31, to make extra money in college, after serving 15 years in Britain’s Royal Navy.

The night gig turned into his day job. Now, Didcott is 45 and manages about 1,000 buff butlers across North America and the United Kingdom.

After a trial run with two butlers in Boston, Didcott will formally launch his company in the Hub. Butlers in the Buff will hold Skype auditions Wednesday in the hope of hiring 20 local guys to buttle the Boston party scene.

“Not allowed to drink or stay on after party finishes – not allowed to socialize. We provide a fun service but need to keep it professional… take it seriously,” said Didcott.

The butlers are all in their 20s and 30s. “I do miss it,” Didcott said, of working parties himself er, in… costume. “It’s a lot of fun. I’m 45 now, so I’m too old I’m afraid.”

The ideal butler would be handsome, articulate, fun, confident, and of course, physically fit. The butlers serve cocktails and hordervers, chat with blushing partygoers, and play party games.

The butlers make $50 per hour, plus tips.

Chris, 22, who’s worked more than 10 parties in the last six months said he loves the work. “It’s a blast. You go and you get paid good money to have a good time, and basically party, but without the drinking aspect.”

Chris said his first job, at a same-sex wedding reception, was “a little intimidating.” He quickly grew into his birthday suit.

“It was my first time doing anything like that. I got a lot of attention, but I got comfortable really quickly,” he said.

One might wonder – why would anyone want to hire a Butler in the Buff instead of simply hiring a male stripper.

“Many people don’t want their party to be boring or dull, but strippers are just too much for them,” said Didcott. “There is no stripping or dancing involved. It’s forbidden.”
