A homeless man was identified by police after drowning in the river near Charlesgate Park at Beacon Street. Officials say that the man was located at the bottom of the river after allegedly falling into the water and then drowning.

The state police Underwater Recovery Unit, Boston Fire Department and Boston Police were on the scene to investigate. According to police they responded to reports around 6 p.m. of a man that had gone into the water and did not resurface.

The man is reportedly 55 years old. Troopers from the Suffolk Country Detective Unit, Crime Scene Services Section and Medical Examiners Offices are assisting at the scene. However, no other information is available at the time as the investigation is ongoing.
