The last runner to finish the 2015 Boston Marathon was honored by Mayor Marty Walsh with a medal Tuesday.

Maickel Melamed, of Venezuela, who has a form of muscular dystrophy, crossed the finish line around 4 a.m. Tuesday, about 20 hours after he started the race 26 miles away in Hopkinton. This year’s field included more than 30,000 runners.

Walsh presented the 39-year-old with a medal around 12:30 Tuesday inside City Hall.

“The message here is that love is much more powerful than death,” said Melamed, according to The Boston Globe. “It was real tough, but it was marvelous.”
