Who’s left for the Red Sox?
Carlos Beltran is a Giant. Hunter Pence is a Phillie (Philly?). Ubaldo Jimenez, for some reason, is apparently an Indian.
Who’s left for the Red Sox — no strangers to blockbuster deadline deals — today?
From the looks of it, not much. (Caveat: You never know with Theo Epstein.)
They went after Rich Harden, but a deal reportedly fell through over medical reports. (As if you’d expect anything else about Rich Harden.)
Hiroki Kuroda, meanwhile, has reportedly said he’ll be staying with the Dodgers for the rest of the season.
Reliever Matt Thornton doesn’t appear to be on the way, either.
Does that mean Mike Aviles is the be-all, end-all of the 2011 deadline season? Probably not. Boston needs a starter, and should close a deal today. But that Harden blockbuster — or the far more unlikely Jimenez acquisition — is finished.
