November more like it for Cup defenders

The Bruins are finally showing some fight.

An October hangover has given way to a November honeymoon.

After slogging through a three-win month to begin their defense of the Stanley Cup, the Bruins now have three wins in three games to start November.

And so, despite their 3-7 start, the Bruins are poised to reach .500 tomorrow night against Edmonton at Garden — and perhaps surpass the mark with three home games to follow.

“We’re getting there,” Patrice Bergeron said after Monday’s 6-2 victory over the Islanders.
“Obviously we can always get better, but I think the past [three] games is the way we’re supposed to play.”

After being outscored 25-22 during their first 10 games, the Bruins have beaten Ottawa, Toronto and the Islanders by a combined score of 18-5 during their three-game winning streak.

Monday’s victory was especially vital, kicking off the five-game homestand by continuing their high-scoring ways after losing five of seven home games in October.

“We talked about how important that was,” coach Claude Julien said. “We’d won a couple of games in a row, and this was an opportunity to start the week off on the right foot and build through it.”
