Patriots look to put an end to Tim Tebow madness

Why we love him

He’s the most polarizing athlete on the planet. You either hate him or love him. Here’s both sides of the argument:

Religious beliefs
What kind of society heaps praise on a guy like Ben Roethlisberger, who has been accused of sexual assault by two different women in two different states, all while openly loathing a milk-and-cookies guy like Tebow?

As far as we know, Tebow is the helping, giving-type in his personal life. He is also a Christian, who loves his faith. Is that so wrong?

The common man
No, he doesn’t resemble Dusty Rhodes in anyway, shape or form. Tebow does, however, give us all hope as athletes.

Just because you’re unable throw a tight spiral, doesn’t mean you can’t be a successful NFL quarterback.

The role model
Athletes shouldn’t be role models (copyright Nike), but the fact of the matter is that they are. Tebow is a guy that kids can truly look up to. He puts his religion and his family before his own selfish motives unlike 99 percent of today’s professional athletes.

Why we hate him

Religious beliefs
It’s not just atheists who can’t stand the White Bronco. The majority of Americans don’t have much patience for religion being tossed in their face. Keep your Bible-thumping ways to yourself, Timmy. Oh ya, and would we even have Tebow-mania right now if he was a Muslim? Hypocrites.

The common man
Football purists don’t like to be wrong. A guy who loves Jesus and throws like Mary (copyright sleazy T-shirt guys outside Fenway) can’t possibly win big in today’s pass-happy NFL. Guys with pocket-presence, like Brady, Brees and Rodgers, get things done in this league. There’s still reason to believe that Tebow is a flash in the pan.

The hype machine
America loves to build people up and just as soon, tear them down. We thought Tebow’s 15 minutes were up a month ago when the Pats put a beatdown on the Broncos in Denver. But the Pittsburgh win happened and we’ve heard nothing but DJ Porter’s “All he does is win” Tebow remix and “Awesome God” ever since on TV and radio airwaves. Enough with this garbage.

The Tebow file

There was a time when the Broncos quarterback was simply known for his phenomenal play on the football field. A look at a few pre-Tebow-mania facts:

Heisman hero Tebow captured the coveted college trophy in 2007, beating out Arkansas back Darren McFadden and Hawaii’s Colt Brennan. The Florida QB was the first sophomore to capture the award.

The 20-club Tebow finished the 2007 season with Florida as the only player in FBS history to rush and pass for 20 touchdowns in the same season.

Owning the SEC On Oct. 31, 2009, Tebow ran for his 50th and 51st collegiate career TDs, breaking the Southeastern Conference career record  formerly held by Georgia running back Herschel Walker.
