Playing the Field: Kentucky riots, Serena in a bikini

No unibrows were harmed in the Lexington riots.

It’s the Final Four. Hide your couches.

Kentucky took part in the annual tradition of rioting, burning couches, and general drunken merriment after their victory over rival Louisville in the national semifinals of the NCAA tournament Saturday night. As we all know, nothing says higher education like lighting an ottoman on fire in the street outside your dorm.

The police were called in with full riot gear to disperse the crowd. Thirteen people were arrested. Apparently they used tear gas and pepper spray to send Big Blue Nation back to their dorm rooms, where they presumably settled in with a political science book and studied for their Monday midterm.

Take a look at the scene:

Note how half the crowd is holding up camera phones to catch the seminal moment in their lives. Sigh. Kids just don’t riot like they used to.

Serena, Serena

Tennis star Serena Williams was nice enough to post on Twitter this photo of her day at the beach yesterday. She’s burying her friend in sand if you were curious why she was holding a bucket.

You didn’t notice the bucket, did you?

Stephon Marbury is a CHAMPION!

… in China.

Well, beggars can’t be choosers, right?

If you’ve missed Marbury’s adventures in China, you’ve really been missing out. A couple weeks ago, he got in trouble after it was reported he punched an opposing fan after a tough playoff loss. He denied it. Then last week his team, the Beijing Ducks, was fined 11,479 U.S. dollars after fans threw trash on the court during another playoff game. Not surprisingly, Marbury has said he loves playing in China.

By the way, he scored 50 points twice in that semifinal playoff series in which he was alleged to have hit a fan. He also put up 41 in the deciding game of the finals. Sounds like he’s not exactly playing the role of distributor.

And so, here he is, bawling his eyes out after winning the title. And then being tossed into the air by his teammates:

If you do a search on YouTube for Marbury’s time in China it appears as though he is crying in every single postgame interview. Good for you, Stephon — the Tuffy Rhodes of Chinese basketball.
