Playing the Field: Adrian Peterson gets arrested

Coincidentally, this is the same face Adrian Peterson made when he sobered up in a jail cell on Saturday morning.

Some bad news for fantasy football fans over the weekend came in the
form of Adrian Peterson getting arrested in Houston for resisting arrest. On the other hand, apparently his surgically repaired knee is
doing great!

The man known as A.D. (as in “All Day”) can apparently party all night as well.

Peterson was in a club at closing time when he was asked to leave.
Apparently he didn’t take too kindly to that and got into a bit of a
shoving match with an off-duty police officer. TMZ reports that he had been belligerent and drunk all night.

But the best part of the story is that the insanely muscular Peterson
wouldn’t go down without a fight. It took three cops — all off-duty
officers hanging out at the club — to bring him down and finally cuff
him. I guess now they know what it feels like to be an NFL defensive back.

So go ahead and feel confident drafting Peterson for your fantasy team this year everybody. Well, as long as he’s not in jail.

He’s clearly got the strength back in his knee.

It’s the Olympics, people!

Not sure if you’re jazzed up for the Olympics yet (no? OK, fair enough),
but the mainstream sports got their due this weekend when the men’s
basketball team convened in Las Vegas the last few days for some token
scrimmages and the paring down of the roster. (Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon and
Anthony Davis were cut. Sorry boys. Thanks for coming out.)

There doesn’t seem to be quite the hype surrounding the team this year
as there was in 2008. Maybe it’s because they lost three games in 2004
and were badly hoping to absolve themselves of that embarrassment. The
games were great in Beijing though. I even stayed up until 2 a.m. to
watch an excellent Gold medal game against Ricky Rubio, Pau Gasol and
Spain.

But Blake Griffin did his best to generate some excitement with this disgusting dunk:

Look how far away from the rim he was when he caught that ball. Absurd.
Oh, and the guy smirking after the dunk in the left foreground, that
would be former Knicks coaching great Mike D’Antoni. He’s an assistant on the team … at least until Carmelo Anthony gets him fired from there as well.

And speaking of generating some buzz for the Olympics, fellow men’s basketball team member Tyson Chandler posed in this year’s ESPN Body Issue — also known as the “Look, naked athletes!” issue — with nothing but a basketball covering his junk. The Daily News got a sneak peak at some of the photos from the magazine, which will be released on Wednesday.

Fellow Olympians Candace Parker (women’s basketball), Carmelita Jeter (track) and Anna Tunnicliffe (sailing) will also be in the issue. And naked. Sorta.
