Fantasy Football: It’s training day – Battles to watch

Roy Helu has the talent to beat out Tim Hightower for a starting job.

Football without pads is like jumping into the pool wearing shoes. It’s just not the same.

During the last five months, we’ve sifted through free agency, the draft and minicamps. What we haven’t seen is football players intensely banging into each other with full gear on. That will change next week as training camps open and
position battles ensue:

Trouble for Beast Mode
There wasn’t supposed to be a battle for carries in Seattle. That all changed when an allegedly drunk Marshawn Lynch was pulled over while driving his Ford Econoline van last weekend. He’s facing a lengthy suspension, leaving rookie Robert Turbin to battle Leon Washington for reps. With an intriguing size/speed skill set, Turbin is shaping up as a sleeper if he wins out.

One-cut Shanny
Mike Shanahan has been wreaking havoc on fantasy leagues since the days of Terrell Davis, Mike Anderson and Olandis Gary. Now he’s setting up a camp battle between Tim Hightower and Roy Helu for the starting gig in Washington. We know that whoever emerges is going to have plenty of success in the one-cut attack.

Green means go
Thanks to Aaron Rodgers and a dominant scheme, the Packers are among the few teams that can support three fantasy wideouts. This year, the No. 3 job is going to come down to Donald Driver, James Jones and Randall Cobb. The veterans will likely get the first look, but Cobb is the one to watch in the long term. He’s explosive.

Bum Britt
We can deal with legal trouble for Kenny Britt. We can’t handle serious joint issues. Britt, who is coming off an?ACL tear in his right knee, recently underwent a scope on his left knee. Owners should have a medical red flag up on draft day.
