Mitt Romney’s ‘binders full of women’ comment spurs Internet memes
Even if you didn’t watch Tuesday night’s presidential town hall debate, you’ve likely seen and heard plenty of buzz today about a certain candidate’s “binders full of women” comment.
Some background: An audience member asked the candidates a question about gender equality. Republican candidate Mitt Romney said when he was looking to fill his cabinet as governor, he was presented with “binders full of women” by women’s groups.
And just like that, a viral Internet meme was born. The Web was set a-blaze with tweets, Facebook status updates, and even a Tumblr account called Binders Full of Women. A Twitter account called @RomneyBinders has more than 33,000 followers. The hashtag #bindersfullofwomen was trending for much of the day. Critics are calling the remark sexist, while others are just getting a good laugh out of it.
