Sixers: Andrew Bynum could be out until mid-January

Bynum, posing with Sixers owner Josh Harris and new teammate Jason Richardson, is hoping the franchise shows him the money before he hits free agency after this season.

Sixers fans will have to wait a while longer to see center Andrew Bynum on the court, as the team announced Monday that the seven-footer could be out until mid-January.

Bynum underwent an MRI and was re-evaluated by longtime personal doctor Dr. David W. Altchek, of New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery, last Monday, the Sixers announced. Bynum was cleared to resume low impact exercise for two weeks followed by three weeks of conditioning on an anti-gravity treadmill.

If the current prognosis holds, Bynum could resume normal basketball activity by Dec. 10, the team said. He would then need an additional one to four weeks for conditioning before being able to play in a game.

“We know that Sixers fans are eager to see Andrew Bynum play and shine
in a 76ers uniform,” General Manager Tony DiLeo said in a press release. “We also know that no one is more eager to see Andrew
play for the Sixers than Andrew himself. He fully realizes the key
contribution he can make to the team. Hopefully, that day is coming
soon.”

The Sixers acquired Bynum in a three-team trade, along with Jason Richardson, in a deal that sent Andre Iguodala to Denver. Bynum has one year remaining on his current contract.
