Red Sox sign 1B/C Mike Napoli

Mike Napoli will likely be the Red Sox starting first baseman on Opening Day.

The Red Sox will have a significant power upgrade in their lineup in 2013 as the team reportedly signed free agent Mike Napoli to a three-year, $39 million deal Monday.

Napoli is known for working the count as he owns a solid OBP (.343 in 2012) and slugging mark (.469). He had 24 home runs last season for Texas.

The first baseman/catcher has hit remarkably well at Fenway Park during the course of his career. He is expected to mostly play first in Boston but may see increased catching duties if the Red Sox make a move this winter with Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
