Celtics: Return of Rajon Rondo Wednesday against Timberwolves

Rajon Rondo has averaged 16.5 assists against the T'Wolves the last two times out.

Rajon Rondo is giving new meaning to the term “well-rested.”

The Celtics point guard dropped an interesting note on reporters at practice yesterday when he said he took a quick vacation to Mexico while serving his two-game suspension for the incident last week involving Brooklyn’s Kris Humphries. When he takes the floor Wednesday at TD Garden (7:30 p.m., CSN) against the Timberwolves, he will have been out of NBA game action for a full week.

“I went to Mexico for a couple days and watched (the Celtics games),” Rondo said. “It was cool … Why not? Had days off, allow my body to get a chance to rest. I wanted to be out there with my teammates but obviously a two-game suspension, and I was glued in front of the TV.”

The Celtics split the two games they were without No. 9, blasting Portland 96-78 at the Garden last Friday but falling to the Bucks, 91-88, in Milwaukee a night later. Jason Terry played 40 minutes in place of Rondo Saturday night, scoring 15 points and totaling 11 assists in the loss.

In general, head coach Doc Rivers was pleased with the way his team played without their mercurial floor leader.

“Overall the last two games, I like where we’re at,” Rivers said. “But we’ve got to continue to do it. We’ve yet to be consistent, in my opinion. You can be consistent and lose a game, and I think Milwaukee was an example of that. I thought we played with the right spirit, but we just have to have that consistent effort.”
