CBS rejects ‘G-rated commercial’ for porn website

The first rejected Super Bowl commercial has gone public.

CBS, the network airing the big game Sunday, has decided not to air a multi-million commercial for the popular adult site, Pornhub.com (very NSFW, guys). The ad, which is embedded below, contains no sexually-explicit content. In fact, a spokesman for Pornhub called it a “G-rated commercial.”

“The Super Bowl is the Holy Grail of ad spots and given our website’s huge following in the U.S., we developed a G-rated commercial that we felt would meet the network’s advertising standards,” stated Corey Price, vice-president of Pornhub. “We would understand their decision if the commercial contained sexually explicit or offensive content that wasn’t safe for the family-friendly telecast. But there is nothing controversial about it, so we’ve released the commercial online to let the people of America voice their opinions.”

This is certainly a slippery slope. Yes, the commercial doesn’t have anything sexually-explicit in it but the mere mention of the website could lead many wandering eyes (perhaps some unsuspecting youngsters) to check out the site. With its 6:30 p.m. kickoff, the Super Bowl draws a large, far-ranging pool of viewers

We’re not saying we agree or disagree with the decision by CBS, but if you have a strong opinion, Pornhub is asking you to vote here.
