‘World of Warcraft’ players raise $2.3 million for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts

The amount of people who chipped in to help Hurricane Sandy relief efforts has been heartwarming. Everyone helped in whatever way they could – and that includes video game enthusiasts.

Disclaimer: This Metro reporter doesn’t know too much (read: anything) about video games. Even so, it’s pretty cool that World of Warcraft players have raised more than $2.3 million for Hurricane Sandy victims.

In December, the video game plays were able to virtually adopt the “Cinder Kitten” for $10. The fundraising went through December 31, 2012 and 100 percent of the funds went to help victims of the disaster, which hit the Northeast at the end of October.

Blizzard, the company behind multi-player online role-playing game, said the money will go toward supporting the American Red Cross’ Sandy relief efforts in providing shelter, food, emotional support, and other assistance to the victims.
