New study links fried food to prostate cancer

We are what we eat, right? New studies show that food intake can affect men in very serious ways.

New research suggests that unhealthy foods such as French fries, fried chicken, battered fish and doughnuts could play a role in the development of life-threatening forms of prostate cancer.

According to the Daily Mail Online, men who eat friend foods more than once a week may increase their risk of prostate cancer by a third.

Previous studies have shown that a bad diet can affect a man’s chances of getting prostate cancer, but this is the first study to indicate that deep-fried foods pose such a danger.

The risk of developing prostate cancer increases by 30 to 37 percent when eating deep fried foods at least once a week, compared to men who only eat fried foods once a month, according to the results which were published in the journal The Prostate.

Men are at a higher risk of prostate cancer, as they get older. Men over the age of 50 are more likely to develop a tumor.

“This is the first study to look at the association between intake of deep-fried foods and risk of prostate cancer,” Dr. Janet Standford, who led the research, told the Daily Mail. “… This suggests that regular consumption of deep-fried foods confers a particular risk for developing prostate cancer.”

This isn’t the first study to examine the relation between food and prostate cancer.

Last year a study found that a diet consisting mainly of oily fish could decrease a man’s chance of dying from prostate cancer by up to 40 percent.

So next time you’re starving, reconsider that burger and fries. Maybe opt for a fresh salad.
