Just when you thought childhood awkwardness couldn’t get any more… awkward, there’s always something to take it to the next level. This time around it’s, “SafetyTats.” The premise of the invention is to identify children’s allergies or other vital information through temporary tattoos that can be applied anywhere on the body.

There are two different types of SafetyTats. The original ones, which are applied like regular temporary tattoos, come with standard allergy messages (such as “food allergy: nuts”) and quick stick write-ons, which come in various neon colors, apply similar to a band-aids and allow users to write custom allergy messages.

“I remember going to an amusement park one weekend with my three kids one weekend and thinking I don’t want to have to worry about them getting lost,” said
“SafetyTats” creator Michele Welsh on ABC’s “The Katie Show.” “I wrote my cell phone number on their arms with a ball point pen but eventually it rubbed off during the day and that’s when I knew that I had to create something else.”

The original safety tats last approximately three to five days depending on the activeness of the child. The quick stick write-ons last up to two weeks and are waterproof. For removal parents can use either baby oil or alcohol.
