Two ways to help local families in need this holiday season
The next two weeks are the busiest shopping days of the year, but there are many families in the area that won’t have any gifts to open on Christmas morning – unless you help.
While donations are of course accepted year round, The Salvation Army is encouraging people to donate $65 for a Red Box, which will go to a family in need. The boxes are full with goodies from brands the organization has partnered with such as Coca-Cola, Good Stuff Toys, BG Foods (Cream of Wheat; Pirates Booty), Minute Rice, White Rock Beverages and Zico Coconut Water. The Salvation Army will be assembling the boxes December 18and distributing them December 20. Click here to donate.
Here at Metro, we are also bringing cheer to many families this year through Tony’s Metro Magic. We are collecting new, unused toys to give to children who live in New York City shelters and other disadvantaged youth. The toys will be given to Partnership for the Homeless and Toys for Tots to distribute. Click here to see the wish list from kids and to donate a toy.
