The Word: Celebrity haircuts that turned heads this year

Miley Cyrus

No more long locks for these ladies. Whether it was for a role of a lifetime or to bring awareness to a cause, here are some haircuts that turned heads this year.

Anne Hathaway

Why:  The actress had to shave her head for her role as the prostitute Fantine in “Les Miserables.”

Current length: Short.  “I love the short-haired lifestyle,” Hathaway says in the December issue of Vogue. “I’m turning 30, and — I hope this isn’t obnoxious to say — I feel prettier and much more myself. I guess I just feel much more satisfied with less now.”

Charlize Theron

Why: Theron’s shaved head is courtesy of her latest film role, “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

Current length: Still shaved.

Kellie Pickler

Why: The “American Idol” singer got a buzz cut to support her best friend, Summer Miller, who had to undergo chemotherapy while being treated for breast cancer.

Current length: Growing out a tad. “We made a pact from the get-go that we would shave our heads together,” Pickler told E! Online about sharing the look with her best pal. “And we did.”

Miley Cyrus

Why: Probably because she’s aching to be seen as more “edgy” than her Disney roots.

Current length: It hasn’t gotten longer or shorter. It’s only gotten crazier. As she wrote on Twitter when she first lost the locks, “Never felt more me in my whole life.”

Dude who could look more like these ladies

Brad Pitt! Your hair. I realize you have 23 children, but that is no excuse to let yourself go. Let’s make 2013 be more “Fight Club” Pitt than “True Romance” Pitt. We women thank you.
