Want a super luxe, free apartment at the W? Enter the HGTV Urban Oasis Sweepstakes!
While a swanky, full-service downtown condo is beyond many 99 percenters’ budgets, the price tag on one home at the Residences at W Boston can’t be beat — because it’s free.
Located on the 24th floor of the W tower, the one-bedroom apartment is this year’s HGTV Urban Oasis prize. Not only is the custom-designed apartment free (studio apartments at the W start at $450,000 and penthouses go for as much as $4,500,000), all of its amenities are included.
“Every single thing that you see is included in the prize,” says Urban Oasis 2013 interior designer Lindsay Pumpa.
“It will look exactly like they see on TV,” confirms her partner in this project, HGTV house planner Jack Thomasson.
Over two months this past spring, the duo redesigned the empty space to streamline it both visually and for livability. The small kitchen island, for example, was extended to create a multi-functional area that doubles as an elegant dining table. The final week of the project was spent adding fittings and furnishings from local purveyors, including the kitchen’s antique cupboard handles, which are from an old butler’s pantry.
The apartment’s artwork includes custom photos of iconic Boston architecture, but the most breathtaking pieces of art are arguably the views of the Public Garden and Boston Common — including the glittering State House roof. Subtle gold accents around the apartment echo the dome’s grandeur.
“I pulled a lot of the coloring from the city. That gold you see through the window, the browns and red brick,” says Pumpa. “We wanted it to feel like a Boston home, but have as broad an appeal as possible,” adds Thomasson.
This 1,000-square-foot home has one bedroom, one and a half bathrooms and a master suite with a walk-in closet and dressing area. Perks include the W Boston Hotel’s in-residence dining, 24-hour concierge, valet parking, fitness center and Bliss Spa. The prize package also includes a 2014 Acura MDX.
