Jared Leto’s Oscar hair was courtesy of Vidal Sassoon

jared leto 86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

This might be the first time we’ve ever received a post-show report about a man’s hair. Generally, after an award show, our inbox is flooded with emails from cosmetic and hair brands on which actresses they’ve styled for the big event. But like his character in “Dallas Buyers Club,” Jared Leto is breaking boundaries.

During last night’s ceremony, the interwebs were equally abuzz by the actor’s perfectly styled tresses as it was by the gorgeous gowns coming down the red carpet — so much so that Vidal Sassoon sent out a release detailing how to get the actor’s gorgeous ombre beach wave, which was styled by Chase Kusero using Vidal Sassoon Pro Series.

So, without further delay, here’s the lowdown on achieving hair like Jared Leto’s:

The Look: Natural, air dried waves
Kusero, who was originally planning on creating another man bun, decided last minute to just let Leto’s pretty wavy hair do its thing. But as pretty as he is, the look took work and was actually  a two-day process. Kusero used the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Waves Collection on the actor the night before and then freshened up his locks the the next day with the ColorFinity Dry Shampoo.

Here’s how

  1. First, prep wet hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Waves Primer Spray, applying it throughout the hair to enhance your natural wave.
  2. Then apply Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Waves Pomade to the length of the hair, providing a flexible hold and soft, glossy curl definition. Create the desired part and let hair air-dry.
  3. The next day, spray Vidal Sassoon Pro Series ColorFinity Dry Shampoo in Rich Darks to the roots to refresh your second-day hair while protecting hair color.
  4. Then spray Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray to the ends to protect hair from heat before straightening it. Take several sections of hair and straighten for a smooth look.
