The T riding public, and those on Twitter, may have saved an MBTA employee his job.

After word got out that a T worker who pre-programmed a display board at Park Street on Christmas to make it sing “Deck The Halls" could get fired for the stunt, supporters of the holiday cheer fought back.

On Tuesday morning, after a petition was made to keep the worker from getting in trouble and hundreds of Tweets begged MBTA officials to go easy on the employee, MassDOT Secretary Rich Davey said “they will be reminded of the appropriate use of the signs and we will move on from there.”

"While I appreciate what the employee was trying to do, at the same time the signs are there for safety and customer information," said Davey. "We have a lot bigger issues to worry about.”

Davey commended the workers record for the T.

On Christmas night, a passenger waiting for a Red Line train at Park Street took a quick video of the holiday prank, as the loud speaker played out “Deck the Halls” in a monotone, robotic voice.

The video flooded the Twitterverse and after just a day online had almost 10,000 views.

MBTA Spokesman Joe Pesaturo said Tuesday that the incident was still "under investigation."

A petition surfaced defending the "harmless humor" claiming it spread "holiday cheer" to those on the T that night.

Twitter user @southsouth sent the video to Metro on Christmas evening while she waited for a Red Line train.

She also blogged about her personal experience, here.
