FOXBORO – State and Foxboro police arrested 117 people at Monday night’s Patriots game, many for being extremely intoxicated, authorities said.

While 15 people were arrested for crimes including assault and battery or criminal trespassing, another 97 people were arrested for being too drunk. Another five people were arrested by State Police.

“It was more challenging than normal,” Foxboro Police Chief Ed O’Leary said, who added that during last year’s Jets game, 75 people were arrested.

O’Leary attributed the high number of arrests to the hype before the game and the typical revelry associated with a Jets matchup.

The cold weather, he said, also led to people switching from beer to hard liquor. Officers noted a large amount of discarded peppermint Schnapps bottles in the areas around the stadium.
