Protesters gathered outside the Cambridge office of Wal-Mart board member James Cash Jr. yesterday in response to the recent discrimination lawsuit some female Wal-Mart employees filed against the company.

A day after their cause was dealt a major blow by a Supreme Court decision against them, women’s rights activists yesterday continued their fight and protested outside a local Wal-Mart official’s Cambridge office.

“Wal-Mart shouldn’t be gloating about taking away the rights of women,” said Jennifer Doe, the women’s rights organizer for Jobs with Justice. “If a company like Wal-Mart doesn’t change, then they will likely lose the support of women shoppers.”

That’s the message Doe and the group of about a dozen mostly female protesters wanted to deliver to Dr. James Cash. Cash, a retired emeritus professor at Harvard Business School, is a member of the store’s board of directors.

Doe asked to speak with Cash at his office, but a secretary and executive said he wasn’t available and urged the group to set up a meeting.

Meanwhile, the other protesters stood outside the Harvard Square office holding signs that read, “Stop corporate greed” and “Living better means equality at Wal-Mart.”

A Wal-Mart executive said in a statement that the court’s decision “pulls the rug out” from under the accusations.
