Man has 163 grams of heroin removed from stomach, intestines: Police

A Lynn man who allegedly smuggled 27 bags of heroin from the Dominican Republic via his digestive systemwas rushed into emergency surgery Tuesday, with doctors recovering just over 163 grams of the drug from his stomach and intestines.

Michael Rodriguez, 51, now faces drug-trafficking charges,The Boston Globe reported.

Rodriguez fell sick while eating dinner in Lynn, according to the the newspaper. Doctors called police to North Shore Medical Center after detecting foreign objects in the man’s stomach.

“They were actually outside of the room, viewing as the doctor was removing [the drugs] and putting them into a tray,” Salem Police Captain Conrad Prosniewski told the Globe.

The drugs have a street value of more than $16,000, authorities said.
