Lynn teen pleads not guilty in fatal Chelsea shooting

Lynn teen pleads not guilty in fatal Chelsea shooting

A Lynn teenager has pleaded not guilty in connection to a deadly Chelsea shooting this past weekend.

On Tuesday,Emanuel Marrero, 16,was arraigned on charges of murder, armed assault with intent to murder, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the shooting death of 19-year-old Pablo Villeda.

Prosecutors said that, besides killing Villeda, Marrero also injured six people when he opened fire on a crowded party early Sunday morning. About 50 people were gathered at the party in a vacant three-room apartment on Washington Avenue.

“One young man is dead,”Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conleysaid in a statement. “Six others, some as young as 15, were nearly killed. Chelsea and State Police detectives took this case extremely seriously, and it’s clear the community did as well.”

Chelsea detectives and the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit have eyewitness statements, video surveillance and telephone records suggesting “one gun and one shooter – the defendant,” Assistant District Attorney Julie Higgins added.

Marrero, who was being held without bail, is scheduled to return to court on April 8.
