A suspect who allegedly charged a group of people while wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with large butcher knives now says the group had jumped him earlier.
Based on accusations he threatened a group of people on Cooper Street in the North End, Steven Lacolla, 26, was arrested Sunday morning and now faces charges of assault by means of a dangerous weapon and wearing a bulletproof vest in the commission of a felony, MassLive reported.
"The suspect was armed with two large butcher knives and wearing a bulletproof vest. … When the suspect saw the officers approaching, he turned away from the crowd and began to walk towards them, still armed with both knives,” police said to MassLive. "After several tense moments, the suspect placed the butcher knives on the ground and was taken into custody without further incident.”
Lacolla and his girlfriend, Ashley Timmons, claimed, though, that a group of men had attacked him earlier, Fox25 reported.
