The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is reviewing Wynn Resorts following reports of a federal probe into the company regarding possible money laundering violations.

Earlier this fall, Wynn was awarded a license that would allow the company to build a casino in Everett.

Now, with The Wall Street Journal reporting that the Internal Revenue Service is requesting information from the company regarding its money laundering safeguards, the commission is saying it will take a look. The company, reporter that paper, has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

“Our Investigations and Enforcement Bureau will conduct a comprehensive and careful review of this matter,” said Elaine Driscoll, a commission spokeswoman earlier this week.”

She added,”Our investigators will also continue to closely monitor any potential developments. The suitability of our licensees is a constant and ongoing part of our process. The commission has very broad authority under the statute to take any actions deemed appropriate. Our investigators will make a series of inquiries into the recent news reports and will brief the commission when it is appropriate to do so.”

Wynn, meanwhile, said it is unaware of any investigation.

“We are not aware of any investigation of the company and no agency has notified the company that it is under any investigation,” said Michael Weaver, a Wynn spokesman, through a statement. “As a highly regulated business we are in a constant dialogue with regulators and governmental agencies on a variety of matters and the fact that information is requested from us by an agency in no way implies the accusation of wrongdoing by the company.”
