Just hours before the first pitch at Opening Day for the Red Sox on Monday, the MBTA was having troubles with the Green Line.
Buses were replacing service between Riverside and Reservoir stations in both directions following a power issue reported at Riverside station just after noon.
Service was beginning to resume around 2 p.m. MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said in an email.
The T tweeted at 12:25 p.m. that there were “minor delays due to an Eversource power issue,” referring to the utility company.
“Eversource had a transformer fire,” Pesaturo said.

The news followed“massive outages” in Newton, according to that city’s Patch website, which reported more than 7,000 customers were without power Monday afternoon — one-fifth of residents served by Eversource. That number by 1:20 p.m. had dropped to 3,800, according to a tweet from WBZ News Radio. The outage came at an ironic time: MBTA officials were in the midst of discussions about the status of the Green Line, according to several reporters, which had to be postponed to deal with the problem.
