State and local police are investigating a homicide after a woman was found dead in Methuen early Monday morning.

Police found an unresponsive female at about 5:45 a.m. after they forced entry into a home on Tudor Street to conduct a well-being check. They also found the woman's 4-year-old son, unharmed, inside the apartment, CBS Boston reported.

The woman, whose identity wasn't disclosed by investigators, was rushed to Holy Family Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to a statement from the Essex District Attorney's Office.

The incident does not appear to be "random act of violence," officials said, although they didn't elaborate.

No arrest has been reported.
