Narragansett unveils new Unnamable Black Lager

Today, in honor of Edgar Allen Poe’s birthday, Narragansett Beer released its “Unnamable Black Lager.” At 7.5% ABV, a six-pack of ‘Gansett’s latest Lovecraft iteration is sure to leave buyers in a Poe-ian stupor.

Inspired by Providence-born H.P. Lovecraft, the prolific 19th Century writer of horror fiction, the Lovecraft series is a celebration of Narragansett’s proverbial rising-from-the-dead in 2005, when new ownership rescued the company from brand-name obscurity.

From the Narragansett website: “[The Unnamable Black Lager] is brewed with Chocolate Rye, Cara Red, Carafra Special 1, and Pilsner Malts for a roasty brew with notes of toffee, caramel, coffee, and dark chocolate. Citra hops add an extra bite of bitterness and a touch of citrus to the finish.”

In honor of the release, Narragansett is hosting a block party at 6:30 tonight at The Arcade in Providence. Attendees will catch a first glimpse at Lovecraft-inspired movie screenings, and have their pick of Lovecraft-inspired cocktails and entrees. Free tastings will be a-plenty.
