UPDATED: Woman jumps from Mass. Ave. Bridge, dies

After multiple calls from the public, authorities have identified the woman who jumped to her death from the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge Thursday morning.

She was identified as a 21-year-old Dorchester woman, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office. Her name was not released.

Authorities received multiple calls from the public after they asked for help identifying the woman and released a description of her as well as photos of jewelry she was wearing.

The woman did not have any identification on her when she jumped about 6:20 a.m.

Authorities described her as a young, black woman about 5 feet, 4 inches and 110 pounds with musical notes tattooed on her chest. Her hair was shaved on the sides, with a longer tuft of hair at the top front.

She was wearing a gold ring on her right middle finger inscribed with “1987 AS Newbury” on the outside and the letters “MJ” on the inside. She was also wearing a necklace.

Authorities released photos of the jewelry with the hope that someone would recognize it.

State Police said witnesses told emergency officials that the woman jumped from the Boston side.

The Boston Fire Department and State Police marine units responded to the Charles River and divers recovered her body about an hour later.

Traffic in the area of the bridge was delayed because of the police activity.
