Massachusetts entrepreneurs interested in opening their own medical marijuana dispensary can learn the tricks of the trade Wednesday during a free educational seminar at The Sheraton Boston Hotel.

The seminar will be hosted by Medbox, Inc., which manufactures armored and automated, finger-print controlled, marijuana dispensation machines.

The idea, according to a Medbox spokeswoman, is that those interested in applying for licensure to operate a medical marijuana dispensary in Massachusetts can learn the best practices from other states, find out how they can help patients with debilitating health conditions access medical marijuana, and ask general questions about operating a dispensary.

Medbox CEO Dr. Bruce Bedrick, will lead the seminar, and will also offer suggestions on how to increase the chance of getting one of the 35 licenses that will be awarded by the state. Bedrick recently opened a Medbox office in Natick.

“Attendees will view a live demonstration of the Medbox suite of technology. Through the use of Bio-Tech, Inc. software, Medbox will deliver the industry’s most complete seed-to-patient tracking technology of medical marijuana. A Bio-Tech representative will explain the process via video conference,” said Andrea D’Iorio, a spokeswoman for the company.

On Friday, the Department of Health released the first draft of laws by which the state’s new medical marijuana industry will be regulated.

The new law, which went into effect Jan. 1, allows for as many as 35 dispensaries to open around the state through which patients will be able to purchase up to a 60-day supply of medical marijuana.

The final version of the regulations are due on May 1.

Three seminars will be held at The Sheraton Boston Hotel’s Gardner room.

The last 30 minutes of each session will be reserved for a question and answer session. Those interested in becoming dispensary operators will have the opportunity to fill out applications on site.

The sessions are as follows Wednesday:
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Those interested in attending must RSVP with their full name, contact information, and preferred time slot to medbox@teakmedia.com.

In order to attend, participants must be interested in opening a medical marijuana dispensary, according to Medbox.
