The list just keeps on growing.

City Councilor Rob Consalvo said Thursday morning in a statement that he is officially running for mayor of Boston.

“I am running for mayor because I love the city of Boston, and I am prepared and ready to serve all of our neighborhoods. I have a proven record of innovation, leadership, compassion and a strong commitment to public service,” Consalvo said. “Boston is a great city. But there are ways to make it even greater and to make sure everyone in it benefits from that greatness — and that is what I want to do.”

The councilor, who represents parts of Hyde Park, Mattapan and Roslindale, made his run official exactly one week after Mayor Thomas Menino formally announced his decision not to seek a sixth term.

Menino’s announcement has set off a free-for-all for the mayor’s seat. On Wednesday, Suffolk district attorney and former City Councilor Daniel Conley announced he is also running for mayor. Other declared candidates include state Rep. Martin Walsh, according to the Herald, City Councilor John Connolly, Will Dorcena, of Hyde Park, who previously ran for a council seat, and Charles Clemons, the founder of TOUCH 106.1 FM.

Consalvo said he will formally kick off his campaign later this month.
