Lehigh Valley man jumped into river to avoid paying child support
A Lehigh Valley man jumped into the Lehigh River during a traffic stop Friday to avoid arrest for not paying child support, reports say.
Robert Rebmann Jr., 30, was pulled over around 9 p.m. on Larry Holmes Drive in Easton, Pa. after police noticed an expired inspection sticker.
The passenger in the vehicle fled as officers approached. As a foot chase ensued, Rebmann exited his car and jumped into the river about 50 yards from the waterfall where the Lehigh empties into the Delaware River.
Police eventually convinced Rebmann to get out of the water with the fear of drowning in the waterfall.
Rebmann was sent to Northampton County Prison for a child-support warrant. He is also charged with expired registration, driving with a suspended license and fleeing authorities.
