Paine’s Park Skatepark set to open on May 22
Skateboarders now have a spot to call their own.
Paine’s Park, a downtown skatepark, will open on May 22 after more than a decade since the concept was suggested.
Located on the banks of the Schuylkill River the project, which was first drawn up in 2002, was initiated by Franklin’s Paine Skatepark Fund.
The park was created as a solution to the skaters who would patrol LOVE park.
“Designed by Anthony Bracali of Friday Architects/Planners and Brian Nugent of SkateNerd, the park will be be a mixed-use public space, with skateboarding as the central feature,” according to a statement from the Greater Philadelphia Tourism and Marketing Corporation. “But also including elements to appeal to the general public like granite and steel benches and sweet views of the Schuylkill River and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.”
