The living Boston Marathon bombing suspect recently had a phone conversation with his mother during which he told her that “everything will be fine,” according to a report.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, is recovering from wounds he suffering during a standoff with police last month. The phone conversation took place from a federal prison medical facility in Devens.

Tsarnaev had a six-minute conversation with his mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, she told Bloomberg.

It was their first phone conversation since his arrest.

“I couldn’t stop myself from crying,” she told Bloomberg from Makhachkala, the capital of Russia’s Dagestan region. “He said: ‘I am absolutely fine, my wounds are healing. Everything is in God’s hands. Be patient. Everything will be fine.’”

Tsarnaeva said she had been promised one phone call a month from her son.

“Mentally he is normal but the child is shocked,” she told Bloomberg. “It was really hard to hear him and for him to hear me. The conversation was very quiet. It was my child, I know he is locked up like a dog, like an animal.”

Tsarnaev had an initial appearance from his hospital bed after federal authorities charged him with the April 15 attack that killed three people and injured more than 260 others. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for July.
