An MBTA Green Line driver has been suspended after a passenger discovered the driver asleep behind the wheel.

The passenger caught the snooze on video, which shows the driver with their head down before the D Line train pulls out of the station, WBZ reports.

A spokesman for the MBTA said the driver was in the second car and not actually driving the trolley at the time of his nap, but, there is “absolutely no excuse for this type of egregious behavior.”

“The MBTA has a very aggressive fatigue awareness program that is required for all safety-sensitive employees,” the MBTA said in a statement to WBZ-TV.  “Our customers’ safety is and always is our top priority and they can be assured that this situation will be handled swiftly and with the most serious of care. We continuously examine and improve upon our safety and training programs to provide our customers with the best possible service.”

In 2009, a Green Line driver pleaded guilty to texting while driving after crashing his train at Government Center. The accident injured over 60 riders.
