Five-year-old child struck and killed by car in South Philadelphia
A five-year-old child was killed Saturday night after being struck by a car in the Whitman section of South Philadelphia.
Police said the young boy, 5, was shortly after 8:30 p.m. hit by a silver Dodge van near 5th and Fizgerald streets.
He was rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he died an hour later.
Investigators said the driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene after the crash, and no arrests were made for driving under the influence.
The child’s identity had not yet been released Sunday morning.
