Federal Donuts to finally gift free fried chicken for life on Friday

After a previous prize went unclaimed, Federal Donuts is now reviving its “free fried chicken for life” offer.

The trendy donuts and fried chicken chain helmed by Philadelphia chef Michael Solomonov is giving customers a second chance to win what they call “a life-changing prize” – and throwing some charitable donations in the mix for good measure.

The contest that spawned the free chicken offer was originally held July 6, when Federal Donuts celebrated National Fried Chicken Day by giving away 20 “golden tickets” entitling recipients to a cache of loot, from T-shirts and coffee beans to a lifetime of fried chicken.

Though the restaurant’s two locations – 1632 Sansom St. in Center City and 1219 S. Second St. in South Philadelphia – served up several hundred orders of the twice-fried Korean-style wings during the promotion and multiple guests reported receiving prizes, owners said one winning chicken for life ticket went unclaimed.

But beginning Wednesday, guests at both Federal locations are encouraged to donate $1 to the Broad Street Ministry, which provides free meals to the needy. The restaurant will for one week match all charitable donations.

They will then on Friday, July 26 hold a drawing and one lucky participant will finally win the coveted free fried chicken for life ticket – for real this time.

“Willy Wonka famously sang that, ‘If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it,’ and we hope that by giving back and encouraging our guests to do the same, we can make ‘paradise’ a little easier to find,” Solomonov said in a statement.

“This initiative is our way of showing some love to our loyal fans and also to those who are less fortunate.”
