UPDATE: DuMont owner Colin Devlin, missing since Wednesday afternoon, has been found dead in his car near a cemetery in Fogelsville, Pennsylvania, a law enforcement official said.

The NYPD was notified earlier this afternoon by Pennsylvania State Police. It appeared that Devlin had shot himself in the head, police said. A gun was recovered in the car, but there was no suicide note.

A police source said Devlin’s wife told investigators that Devlin had just found out his application for a business loan had been denied. His restaurants — DuMont and DuMont Burger — were reportedly facing financial difficulties.

Devlin was also the owner of Dressler, one of only a handful of Michelin-starred restaurants in Brooklyn. Dressler was abruptly closed a little over a month ago, apparently due to an inability to reach a lease renewal agreement with the landlord.

A note on the Dressler website speaks of “new ventures” in Clinton Hill and Prospect Heights.

Devlin’s wife reportedly contacted police yesterday afternoon due to a text message from her husband around 4:18 p.m. asking that she take care of their children.

Police said Devlin’s wife told them she suspected her husband might head to their second home in Pennsylvania, where they keep a .38-caliber revolver in a safe. His car was caught by a plate reader at the Holland Tunnel yesterday at 3:14 p.m. There was no activity recorded by his EZ-Pass today and the Find My iPhone app indicated his cell phone was offline.

Metro’s original story is below.

The owner of a popular Williamsburg restaurant has been missing since early Wednesday afternoon, police say.

Colin Devlin, 42, is the owner of DuMont on Union Avenue in Brooklyn. He was last seen leaving his home on Devoe Street around 2:25 p.m. on Wednesday, cops said.

DuMont has been a neighborhood favorite since it opened in 2001, locals say. Its sister restaurants, DuMont Burger and the Michelin-starred Dressler, also in the Williamsburg area, opened in 2005 and 2006 respectively.

Staff at DuMont declined to comment. According to the restaurant’s website, Devlin was born in Philadelphia and has been passionate about restaurants since his first job as a dishwasher at a local catering company when he was 14 years old.

Friends of Devlin’s reportedly told police he had been despondent in recent days.

Police are asking the public to assist in finding Devlin, who they describe as 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, with blue eyes and brown and gray hair. When he left his house on Wednesday, he was wearing a green shirt, blue jeans and blue sneakers.
