Police are searching for a man who tried to rape a woman while she was on a morning walk with her dog in Inwood on Sunday.

The victim, 30, was walking in the vicinity of West 212th Street just before 7 a.m. when the suspect approached her from behind, grabbed her and tried to remove her clothing. The woman fought off the attacker and he fled the scene, police said.

A nearby surveillance video caught the whole incident on tape. The suspect is seen following the woman, whose image has been blacked out to protect her identity. He calmly approaches her from behind and then attacks her. The two struggle until the man finally takes off.

He is described as being in his late 20s, about 5-foot-11 and 180 lbs. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue denim shorts and a brown or red baseball cap.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
