Richer Pour: Wine in a keg is still class in a glass
Richer Pour Wine Company, a recently-launched Boston-based fine wine on tap purveyor, is on a mission to change the way restaurants, caterers and spirit aficionados approach wine by the glass.
“Most people get over the stigma really quickly once they taste the wine,” said David Gordon, who along with Eric Ritvo founded Richer Pour.
Their company is one of just a few in the country, and the only in New England, that focuses exclusively on the wine on tap method.
According to Gordon, the non-traditional dispensation method doesn’t compromise the taste or quality of wine.
“You could dispense a $1,000 bottle of wine and still get a great consistent product,” Gordon said.
The Boston-based company is currently the only of its kind in the U.S. to use 100 percent recyclable kegs, which Gordon said ensures higher quality of the wines over time in addition to being more cost effective, eco-friendly and convenient.
One keg is equivalent to 26.6 bottles of wine, or 120 glasses. The wine never touches air or gas until served, and there is no threat of the wine getting “corked,” according to Gordon.
The kegs are not meant to be stored and returned, but rather, they are designed to be recycled and disposed of when empty.
Earlier this year, Sam Adams took a similar step towards serving convenience by offering its beer in a can.
“The whole craft beer movement is going more toward cans. There are better ways to transport things that are cost effective and eliminate a lot of waste,” Gordon said.
