The City Council on Thursday voted to override the mayor’s vetoes of the anti-profiling bill and the inspector general bill.

The inspector general bill override passed 39-10, and the anti-profiling override passed 34-15.

The votes worked out largely as expected, though one mayor opponent of both bills, Queens Councilman Peter Vallone, was absent from the vote.

In a tweet, Vallone said, “The city just became less safe.”

As expected and in line with her previous vote on June 27, Speaker Christine Quinn voted in favor of the inspector general bill and against the anti-profiling bill.

The bills now go to the floor for another vote by the full council. It is expected they will pass.

If they do pass, the inspector general bill will take effect Jan. 1. The next mayor will then appoint an inspector general.

The anti-profiling bill will take effect in 90 days.

The only recourse the mayor will have to stop their implementation will be to sue.
